So We Are Sewing These Days!

So what have we been up to lately at the CHCH? Well, I am glad you asked because I am excited to share with you the new hobby spreading among the children. Sewing!
That’s right. The CHCH has been sewing like crazy this past week. Girls and boys both have been busy making hair bows, skirts, and purses. And boy are they cute!
All the thanks goes to the Hillsboro church of Christ from Nashville, TN. The ladies from this church truly outdid themselves and have given such a gift to the orphanage this week. Not only did they purchase and supply us with five brand new sewing machines, but also  gave us a room full of sewing supplies complete with plastic bags and labels for selling. They  painted the rooms and organized everything for us.
And our teenagers are loving it! I don’t think the room has been empty yet all week. It has been so exciting to see our girls (and boys) get so creative and be able to make something so cute that they can be proud of. Not to mention our little girls are looking adorable with all their new hair bows!
We feel so blessed to have this new sewing room. It is not only fun, but it is also teaching our kids some very valuable lessons. Yes, they are learning to sew, but in addition they are learning to be creative, to work, to sell, and to love doing it all at the same time. It is giving them a hobby, something to enjoy, and a possible career for some.
The sewing room has been a dream of ours since before we got here and we are more than grateful that the Hillsboro ladies put it together for us. Their work far exceeded our expectations. We love you ladies so much!
If you are coming to Haiti anytime soon and know how to sew, please come take advantage of our new sewing center. We would love for you to come teach a class and give the kids some new projects to work on. Simply email me (Jillian) at hunterandjillian@hotmail.com.
And stay tuned for information on how you can purchase some handmade hair bows, headbands, and clips from our girls. All proceeds will go directly to the artist J (We support fair trade here at the CHCH!).
Well that is all for now. I gotta go get back to bow making with Ti Marie!

  2. I am thrilled that they are so excited! I can't wait to show off the things I bought that they had made. I bet you are getting ready to find out who the real business "brains" are too.
